A few days ago, nagpost ako ng isang note sa FB, tungkol sa isang instance sa recent TOYCON, which as folows:


Saddest Moment in TOYCON


We attended TOYCON 2011 this weekend, and stayed in Komikon's booth most of the time (Thanks to KOMIKON for accommodating us!), and had a little fun while we're there.

During the event, the Komikon peeps were holding a 1 php raffle, where you get a prize, depending on what you pick (or what's written on the paper).
Sometimes you get a candy, other times you have to do a task before getting a prize...

One time, there was an old man and his two teen sons who tried their luck. They picked 5...
Among the 5 picked, there was a question they need to answer to be able to get a poster:

So Lyndon asked," Give one local comic artist and his work."

The teen went blank...he seemed to recall nobody....
After a few minutes, his father offered Carlo J. Caparas...

"Okay," said Lyndon, "Carlo J. Caparas...Give one work that he did...

I was thinking. "c'mon...Panday...Panday...!"

The teen was still clueless. And can't think of an answer...not even a wrong one.... So no prize.

That I think was the saddest moment I've seen in the con.
It's not just that he can't get a prize from the raffle, it's the fact that he seemed to be clueless about any local artist or their work (not even the popular ones).

It's frustrating to watch.

So yeah, that give us one more reason to invite more friends to read more komiks...

If we can campaign for politicians during elections, I see no reason we can't campaign for local komiks awareness...right?

Maraming nag-react dito sa note, so naisipan namin ng members Indie Komiks Manila na magsimula ng isang campaign na ang main goal mag-promote ng local Komiks sa mga kababayan din natin....

Naisip namin ang proyektong 100 Araw ng KOMIKS kung saan magpo-promote kami ng KOMIKS for 100 days, para makahatak ng bagong mambabasa, o makahikayat ng mga nagbabasa ng foreign komiks na magbasa/bumili/kahit try lang... ng local KOMIKS ulit (and maybe encourage them to make thier own KOMIKS)...
In time, most specially for KOMIKON (since lalabas tayong lahat dun... )

Ito ang unang phase:

First Month (JULY): Promotion/Campaign of OWN KOMIKS title (whether individual or group...basta sariling bakuran)

Sa month na ito, magpopost ang mga nagkokokomiks sa Journal, FB status (one per day) or any means para malaman ng ibang tao na may komiks ka, saan ito available or kung saan lalabas/mababasa/mabibili, at kung ano pang info tungkol sa komiks mo...

Pwede ring kahit anong KOMIKS related (like events), pero priority sariling komiks muna (or anything related to your own title)....Kung walang sariling komiks, post ng isang KOMIKS trivia na alam mo, tapos share mo sa amin...

At dapat everyday meron, kahit isang stat message lang, dedicated dun sa campaign..

Ganito ang magiging format...

100 ARAW ng KOMIKS: (komiks status/link/etc)

Umpisahan natin with "Simula na ng 100 araw ng KOMIKS!!!"

a) Komiks artists and authors (other than your self). Whether they’re still active or not. It can be in a form of trivia, or interviews (not necessarily done by you), or link to their sites. Posters are encouraged to promote komiks artsts outside their own group (pero pwede pa rin na kagrupo kung artist posts lang)

b) Other existing komiks. If you have reviews, or recommendations, now is the time to post it. It can also be in a form of links to an image of the cover or the pages. Titles for recommendations and reviews, should of course, be still available in the shops or cons, or online (or else where where people can get them, like kindle). Also, recommendations should be for titles outside your own comic group.

c) The post can also be a fan art of any local komiks character (this can also be a form of recommendation for existing titles).

The goal for August is to introduce komiks artists (veterans and newbies, mainstream and indie) and their works to other people, and to your circle (since everybody in your circle already knows that you are making komiks).

This is also a chance to know other artists, their works and their contributions. And also, to introduce the new gen artists to komiks readers. It’s also a heads-up if you’re going to local komiks events. At least alam niyo na kung sino sila.
